EPA VICTORIA
In Victoria, the Victorian EPA provides an overview of the requirements for obtaining approvals for an onsite wastewater treatment system, including state legislation and guidelines.

An excellent site covering the on-site wastewater in Victoria, trends, and links to many interest sites.

SA Health
In South Australia, SA Health provides comprehensive advice on obtaining approval to operate an on-site wastewater treatment system.

The Office of Local Government
The OLG website explains the local government obligations for onsite wastewater systems and provides reference documents.

NSW Health
A good overview of NSW Health obligations and definitions of wastewater, and links to information sites.

NT Health
A good overview of the obligations and approvals required to install on-site wastewater systems outside Building Control Areas (rural).

WA Health
The Wastewater Management Branch of WA Health administers several pieces of legislation and a number of Codes of Practice, Guidelines and Policies relevant to on-site wastewater.

QLD Government
A brief overview of the approval process, definitions, legislation and code for on-site wastewater systems.

CBOS
A good overview site of on-site wastewater legislation and obligations in Tasmania.

WICD
Water Industry Capacity Development. WICD is an initiative which aims to provide greater coordination of and access to water-related training and professional development courses and resources to the Australian water industry.

Lanfax Laboratories
Bob Patterson runs an environmental laboratory from Armidale, NSW. Dr Patterson also hosts numerous research links and topics related to wastewater, nutrients and salts.

NESC (National Environmental Services Center)
An excellent portal into the US on-site wastewater field. Run by the West Virginia University. And sponsored by the US EPA. Information and links are too numerous to mention here, see for yourself.

Water New Zealand
A water and wastewater association. A good portal to training, publications, forums, and issues related to these disciplines in New Zealand.

NZLTC (NZ Land Treatment Collective)
An interesting research collaboration between SCIRO and SCION as part of the ENSIS research body on sustainable forestry.

The Laundry Alternative
This is a US based online shop that sells septic safe products and has large library of septic related articles including descriptions of various treatment systems, use of chemicals and filters, septic tank maintenance and troubleshooting. All articles are written in non technical English so good for non professionals and professionals alike.

EnviroPro Alternatives Pty Ltd
A company in NSW that sells microbiological or nutrient based masking and treatment products for recreational, domestic and commercial applications portable toilets, septic tanks, settling ponds.

An international portal site for publications, technologies, products and services, and events in the environmental field.

Soil and Water Management

Clearwater
This was established in 2002 as part of the Victorian Stormwater Action Program. Clearwater is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to accelerate the uptake of sustainable urban water management. To this end, Clearwater offers training, forums and site visits, advice and web-based resources.

Stormwater Australia
Whitehead & Associates belongs to a forum convened by this association. Stormwater Network is a tool that can be used by everyone associated with the Stormwater industry to ask questions, get advice and virtually network with members of the stormwater community within Australia.

Water by Design
Water by Design is a capacity building program that supports the uptake of Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) in South East Queensland. It was established by the South East Queensland Healthy Waterways Partnership in 2005, as an integral component of the SEQ Healthy Waterways Strategy. The Water by Design website brings together knowledge, experiences and expertise in WSUD and sustainable urban water management to assist the land development industry and government make the transition towards smarter water management.

WSUD
Water Sensitive Urban Design in the Sydney Region. WSUD in Sydney is a Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority initiative. The SMCMA is a NSW Government agency responsible for the coordination and management of Sydney’s natural resources, including land, rivers, estuaries and coastal systems. The aim of the WSUD in Sydney Program is to enhance the ability and willingness of Council staff and Councillors to promote and implement more sustainable water management practices in their councils operations and in urban development projects in Sydney, Australia.
